Job Description

Mspark is a leading provider of highly-targeted, customized direct marketing solutions for rural and suburban markets. The company’s core targeted marketing solution is its shared mail products, which offer a cost-effective solution for customers by combining individual advertisements from multiple businesses into a single package. Mspark offers digital products, services and solutions that are complementary to its shared mail and other print products. The company currently reaches 27+ million households each month with its products, services over 500 markets, primarily in the Southeast and Midwest, and has annual revenue in excess of $195 million.

Mspark employs approximately 900 full- and part-time staff across its suburban Birmingham (Helena, AL) corporate office, 4 manufacturing plants located in Alabaster, AL, Brompton, AL, Indianapolis, IN and Shreveport, LA and its National and Local sales force deployed across the US.

The Shreveport Plant Manager reports to the corporate VP of Operations domiciled in Birmingham and will have full responsibility and accountability for Mspark’s 45,000 sq./ft. Shreveport mail production facility. This leased facility has a staff of 80 full-time and approximately 40 part-time production associates with an annual operating budget of $1.5 million.

Experience and Skills:

The position’s primary responsibilities will encompass all production planning, production operations, process improvement, machine maintenance (shared with a corporate Technical Manager), staff management, recruiting, budget administration and quality control for this 2-shift operation that annually produces over 38 million pieces monthly for delivery to 5.2 million households across our markets.  Additional responsibilities for this “hands-on” role would include production reporting, vendor management, capital budgeting and communications with other Mspark managers and staff.

The company’s weekly and monthly publication schedules drive a cyclic, non-continuous production schedule.  The primary production cycle runs two 10-hour shifts for 10-11 days with a one-day break in the middle.  Key deliverables will include maximizing quality while minimizing cost and scheduling and managing staffing levels and production to consistently achieve targeted shipping dates.  The incumbent will need to lead and manage process improvement to continuously improve throughput.

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years management experience in a process production/assembly environment and exposure to formal process improvement (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma. etc.) programs.  Experience in a mail production or related paper-handling environment and bilingual English/Spanish language skills are strongly preferred.
